About CanadaMade

CanadaMade is a website with the sole purpose of connecting consumers with producers of Canadian Made Products. Made in Canada, eh. Some people say that nothing is made in Canada anymore. This site is going to prove them wrong. Just about everything is "(still) made here" hoser.

Products made in Canada range from cars to sweaters to satellites from canned carrots to toilet paper and ice wine. Canadian producers consist of large multinational factories, basement workshops, and all organizations in between. If it's made in Canada and you can't find it here, feel free to sign up and add it to the site.

Find products made in Canada by either browsing the list of featured items and tags on the homepage, or search for it in the search field above. Enter in keywords (tags), places or industries related to your search. Use multiple tags to narrow your search. For example, you might be looking for a red toque made in Quebec. Type in red, toque and Quebec. Then on the results page you will see all the related items with a handy map that will illustrate where your item is made. Below the map there is also a postal code field, if you have not signed up enter your postal code there and results will reorient based on your location. Perhaps the best find is the one closest to you.

Contribute to the site by signing up. Click on Join. Fill in the super quick registration form and click the Sign up! button. You will then be sent the standard email confirmation link. Once you receive this link in your email, click it. You will then be sent back to canadamade.org and you can start adding comments, tags and products.

Adding products made in Canada is easy.

First, make sure the item isn't already on the site by performing a search. You don't want to add something that is already on the site.

Second find the product you want to add. Items added to the site should be at least 60% made in Canada. If you are unsure, ask the maker of the item by calling them or through email. We don't want fakers, or those companies that ship stuff from China, do a bit of soldering and smack a sticker on the product.

Once you know for sure the item is made here. You will need;

  1. One or more quality images of the product. Format jpg, gif, or png will do.
  2. The official product name. This usually comprises of the company, product name and the item type. For example, Evergreen Prospector 16' Canoe.
  3. SKU or Product Number (optional). This isn't as important but if you can get the SKU or any related product number this might help people find this product. We like SKU more, but whatever.
  4. Product Description. Enter a description of the product as best as you can in less than 500 words.
  5. Tags. Add as many related keywords as you can about the product. Don't worry, if you miss some important ones other users are allowed to add tags as well.
  6. Who makes the product? Ideally enter the official name andaddress of the company or person that makes the item. This will enable people to buy things made close to home using the map. Select from the list of manufacturers or add a new one. If you don't know, leave it as "I don't know".
  7. Link. The best link to use is one to where the product can be bought directly online. If there is no such location, add a link to the company's website, or to the best information you can find about the product online.

That's it. After checking the terms and conditions checkbox, select submit. Your product will then be added to the site. You are doing your part to support Canada's many producers of fine products.
